HOM Furniture Pick-Up Techs assist customers with picking up furniture and other product from our warehouse. The primary duties of this position include assembling, prepping, loading, and packing furniture and other product into customer vehicles or transfer trucks. Our Techs help ensure that each customer receives exactly what they ordered, and that the product the customer receives in excellent condition!

This individual must be at least 16 years of age; 18 years of age or older to operate machinery or equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Interact with customers and coworkers in a courteous and professional manner
  • Process invoices and ship product in computer with speed and accuracy
  • Load and prepare product for transport in customer vehicles by properly tying down, applying wrap and/or protective materials to product
  • Pull and load product accurately from pick sheets
  • Help respond to phone calls and requests from customers and showrooms
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized warehouse
  • Disassemble and prep product for pickup, transfers, etc
  • Maintain quality of furniture
  • Operate machinery such as trash compactor (ages 18+ only)
  • Work outside shoveling, sweeping, etc
  • A valid driver’s license is required, as employees may be required to occasionally drive company vehicles
  • Adhere to safe lifting techniques and follow proper training for learned job hazards and ergonomic risk factors
  • Participate in departmental stretching program
  • Overall maintain a safe working environment
Education and/or Experience

Candidate must have or be currently working towards a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and or training. Candidate must also understand basic computer knowledge as it is required to punch in and out, look up inventory, check email, and other work related functions.

Language Skills

Candidate must be fluent in the English language, in both verbal and written formats. This position requires skills to read and interpret documents such as instructions, correspondence, memos, safety rules, and procedure manuals. Candidates must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and possess the skills to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of our organization.

Mathematical Skills

Candidate must have a mathematical aptitude to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. This position also requires skills to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

Reach with hands and arms in any direction, ascend and descend ladders and stairs using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Stooping by bending downward and forward by bending at the waist, kneeling or bending at the knees to come to a rest on knee or knees, crouching by bending the body downward and forward, or crawling by moving about on hands or hands and feet. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data or figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, and using measurement devices.

Reasoning Ability

Candidate must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form is also necessary.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, chemical sprayer to apply lacquer or fabric protection to product. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
