HOM is a growing company that ranks as one of the nation’s largest furniture retailers serving customers in the upper Midwestern states of Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Our Flooring/Rug Sales Specialists are energetic, driven individuals responsible for selling our products and services to customers. They know their product, follow up with customers, create opportunities and find meaning in their work. We pay our furniture associates variable commission rates based on the furniture sold. The amount you earn is all up to you!

Due to the nature of our business, we are busiest evenings and weekends. Availability during those hours is ideal. However, we believe in and promote work-life balance, and scheduling needs should be discussed with the hiring manager.

Must have or be working towards a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two to four years related flooring experience and/or training.


Requires skills to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Need to be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Demonstrate the ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written format.


Mathematical aptitude to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Also requires skills to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and the ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Support all training endeavors and complete all training lessons in a timely manner
  • Attend and participate in all training and sales meetings as scheduled
  • Recognize opportunities for self-improvement, work with sales manager to improve performance
  • May occasionally travel for house calls and training purposes. Reliable transportation is required. 
  • Follows progress of orders from start to finish, including checking out samples, setting up measurements, interpreting & reviewing measurements/estimate drawings with customers, working with project coordinator on installation. 
  • Responsible for staying informed on all new and existing product lines
  • Responsible for staying informed of competitor information, and performing monthly competitor shops
  • Secret Shops will be conducted to ensure selling skills are demonstrated according to company structured selling methods


  • Make daily evaluations and improvements to sales performance and HOM Guard protection products and services
  • Submit timely and accurate sales reports as directed by manager
  • Keep organized records


  • Work with all customers in a friendly and professional manner in both the showroom and on house calls
  • Communicate effectively with customers in both verbal and written formats
  • Maintain a well-groomed professional appearance
  • Greet all customers within the showroom
  • Determine customer's needs using proper inquiries
  • Present and demonstrate products in a competent manner
  • Quote accurate prices and credit terms
  • Estimate delivery dates to customer, based on knowledge of production and delivery schedules
  • Lead customers into making buying decisions and to related add-on sales
  • Competently provide answers regarding products to customer
  • Recognize and overcome customer objections
  • Track prospective customers for future use as sales leads, based on information from previous contacts
  • Contact regular and prospective customers on a daily basis for the purpose of generating sales
  • Send thank you letters to all customers
  • Provide all customers with after sale service


  • Support management and peers, train and assist as needed
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures
  • Embrace change and demonstrate a positive mental attitude
  • Adjust scheduled hours to meet store needs
  • Perform non-selling activities, such as: price product for promotional events, regular maintenance of price cards, light dusting & vacuuming, maintain cleanliness in all areas of the showroom


  • Meet agreed upon sales and HOM Guard product goals on a month to month basis
  • Consistently demonstrate selling skills using the company’s structured selling method
  • Maintaining high accuracy i.e.: writing invoices, special orders, discounting, delivery charges, etc.
