Summary

Do you like it when you walk in to a store and everything is presented in a cohesive manner?  Do you especially enjoy how a rug can make a house a home?  If this sounds like something that interests you, then the position of Rug Porter for HOM Furniture may be just the job for you!!  The main responsibility of the Rug Porter is to maintain WORLD RUGS department's appearance. One would make sure to hang rugs on rug arms and flipping through rug piles, along with general maintenance of the department. This position also helps customers carry out purchased items and returned items. Candidate must accurately receive, send and transfer merchandise in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Change ceiling light bulbs daily and adjust to highlight furniture and rugs.
  • Product assembly.
  • Maintain showroom appearance through light cleaning, vacuuming, and tidying up daily. Inventory responsibilities: zone placement accuracy, cycle scans, year-end inventory or any full showroom inventory.
  • Disassemble & prep product for pick-up or transfer.
  • Receive transfers.
  • Unpacking/unbagging and resetting floor models and ensure they are showroom ready.
  • Warehouse and dock area to be kept tidy at all times (to include sweeping, mopping and general pick up to meet safety requirements).
  • Helping with floor arrangement.
  • Hang rugs/taking down rugs.
  • Monitoring the cookie shop for cleanliness.
  • Maintain entrance to showroom daily (snow removal or sweeping).
  • Clear snow from sidewalks for all fire exits.
  • Parking lot cleanliness (pick up daily).
  • Assistance to the Operations Manager/Showroom management team/Visuals. Strollers (clean weekly).
  • Customer Assistance, loading/unloading assisting customers.
  • Print & place price cards/cts
  • Maintain stock levels of "take with" items.
  • Maintain supplies as assigned.
  • Maintain tools/carts/strollers.
  • Maintain quality of furniture (ordering replacement or arranging for repair of damaged furniture).
  • Product care.
  • Unloading of trucks.
  • AS400 functions.
  • Use HOMs Intranet and email as needed
  • Ensure safety issues such as appropriate lifting, using ladders correct and trash compactor use (must be 18 years old).
  • Assisting customers and/or sales consultants with flipping of rug piles
  • Use of power tools.
  • Adheres to safe lifting techniques, follows proper training for learned job hazards and ergonomic risk factors, participates in departmental stretching program, and overall maintains a safe working environment.
Education and/or Experience

Must have or be currently working towards a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Language Skills
Require skills to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Possess skills to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Demonstrate the ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written format.
Mathematical Skills
Mathematical aptitude to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
